Stirling Cottage Enjoy morning/afternoon tea or a light lunch on the balcony overlooking the Harvey River. In winter sit inside by the cosy openfire and enjoy our hearty home made soup. Early in the 1800s the first governor of Western Australia chose this area to build his hunting cottage. Although the cottage seen today is a replica, it is closely modelled on the original and shares many of its unique features. Then in the late 1880s May Gibbs (creator of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie) lived in the cottage as a child and added to it's colourful history by drawing on the local environment as inspiration for her stories.
